Low consumption hive & thermal insulation - BeevolutionX
BeevolutionX Tech
BeevolutionX Tech is dedicated to the continuous improvement of low-energy hives®. This concept, which has been constantly evolving since its creation, paves the way for future innovations to provide an even better response to the needs of bees and beekeepers.
BeevolutionX Academy
The BeevolutionX Academy is an online platform dedicated to the training of beekeepers on the specific conduct of low-energy hives (RBC®). Much more than just a learning space, this online academy is also a living community, a place for sharing and exchanging ideas about RBC®. Au sein de ce réseau, les apiculteurs partagent des données de température en temps réel, des retours d’expérience, et contribuent ensemble à l’amélioration continue des solutions d’isolation thermique.
What is the low consumption hive?
is a beekeeping approach that aims to improve the thermal comfort of the hive in order to help bees spend less energy regulating temperature and humidity. The objective is to better respect the natural needs of the colony by creating a more coherent and stable environment.
An approach born from the observation of Marc Guillemain
Marc Guillemain, beekeeper in Auxerre and passionate observer of bee behavior, is at the origin of the High Performance Isolated Partitions (PIHP). By observing the thermal limits of traditional beehives, he developed a concrete approach to improve colony comfort and limit unnecessary energy expenditure.
His work marked an important step in the reflection around the insulation of hives. Long before these topics became widely discussed, Marc was already defending a demanding vision, based on observation, experimentation and continuous improvement.
The meeting between Marc Guillemain and Damien Merit
In 2009, Damien Merit discovered PIHPs while observing Marc Guillemain's hives. At the time, the idea of isolating hives was not widely used, and was even frowned upon in beekeeping circles. However, convinced of the impact of this breakthrough, Marc and Damien joined forces to perfect the concept and give birth to what is now known as the PIHP.
From this dynamic came the Low Energy Beehive®, a method designed to better support bees by taking into account their natural functioning and the realities of the field.
Beehives designed for bees
The RBC® is not based on a simple accessory, but on an overall logic. By improving the thermal coherence of the hive, this approach helps colonies to better manage temperature variations and limit thermoregulatory efforts. It is part of a more attentive, more coherent and more respectful conduct towards the real needs of bees.
BeevolutionX: bringing this heritage to life
BeevolutionX is in line with the work of Marc Guillemain. Through the development of solutions adapted to the Low Energy Hive® and the transmission of this approach on the ground, our desire is to bring this vision to life, evolve and share it.
The BeevolutionX Academy
With theBeevolutionX Academy, we convey the principles, reflections and advances that surround the RBC®. More than just a training space, it is a place of exchange and continuity, faithful to the spirit of transmission carried by Marc Guillemain.
BeevolutionX is the legacy of a deep reflection on the hive, put at the service of bees and beekeepers of today and tomorrow.

Damien Merit
Founder of BeevolutionX
I'm a professional beekeeper from a family of beekeepers, and a recognised specialist in bee biology. In collaboration with Marc Guillemain, a pioneer in advanced hive insulation, I contributed to the development of the Low Consumption Hive. As a trainer, lecturer and founder of the BeevolutionX Beekeeping Academy, I'm passionate about sharing my expertise and my commitment to innovative beekeeping.

Jean-Baptiste Merit
Director of BeevolutionX Tech
Having grown up surrounded by beehives, it was only natural for me to join my brother Damien in offering beekeepers solutions that are tailored to their needs, in particular the optimisation of low-energy beehives.
My role is to oversee the implementation of technological advances aimed at optimising the thermal comfort of bees
Frequently Asked Question
What materials should be used to properly insulate a hive?
In a low-consumption beehive approach, the objective is not to accumulate materials randomly, but to create a coherent whole. Good insulation helps the colony to limit its energy expenditure, better manage temperature differences and leave in better conditions.
The cushion: the priority element of insulation
The cushion placed under the roof is the most important element. It must be made with a real thermal insulator such as XPS, EPP, wood fiber or any other high-performance insulating material. Effective top insulation is essential to improve the hive’s thermal comfort.
The thermo-reflective film: a useful complement
The thermo-reflective film comes in addition to the main insulation. It helps to limit heat exchanges and better manage radiation, without replacing a thick insulator. Well positioned, it fits into a global logic of thermal optimization of the hive.
Partition walls: adjusting the size of the colony
The high-performance insulating partitions, used in the body or in raised format according to needs, allow adapting the volume of the hive while reinforcing its thermal stability. They contribute to a more coherent management of the space occupied by bees.
Consistent insulation for a more efficient hive
Efficiency does not rely on a single material, but on the proper positioning of each element. In a low-energy hive, the priority is to respect the natural functioning of the colony while improving the thermal conditions inside the hive.
Why choose BeevolutionX?
At BeevolutionX, we develop solutions designed for the thermal performance of the hive, the respect for the natural functioning of bees and the simplicity of implementation. Our goal is to offer beekeepers reliable, durable and truly useful materials in the field.
Solutions designed for the low-consumption hive
